Junior High Social Studies

Throughout junior high, Sacred Heart School students are encouraged to be informed of and to have opinions regarding current events. Weekly summaries are required of articles from acceptable news sources. Students are also asked to research topics on the internet and to create written reports supporting their opinions. Other student responsibilities include a variety of projects, vocabulary, class notes, chapter outlines, quizzes, and tests.

Specifics of the social studies curriculum by grade level include:

• For sixth grade - world history, including Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, ancient China, Greek civilization, the Roman Empire, and African culture.
• For seventh grade – the culture, geography and history of Asia and Latin America.
• For eighth grade – the geography and history of the United States, from the Civil War to the present, with an emphasis on the U.S. and Illinois constitutions.
