Sacred Heart School offers a unique, full-day kindergarten. The well-rounded curriculum emphasizes language development, reading readiness, writing, and hands-on math skills. The children participate in whole class and small group lessons, as well as independent work time and free choice time.

A balanced program of reading, writing and speaking enhances language skills and reading readiness. Letter recognition, letter sounds and sight word vocabulary are presented through text and experiences.

Math concepts explored include: counting, number writing, patterning, graphing, sorting, time, money, and problem solving. “Everyday Mathematics” provides an opportunity to engage in small group, hands-on activities that support the ideas taught in the classroom.

Social studies topics are thematic, revolving around persons of note, holidays and seasons. Current events discussions and special events energize the learning.

Science topics include weather, the five senses, and special units on bats, penguins and other living things. Field trips, big books, and sharing items from home help support the in-class learning.

Religion focuses on the creations of God, learning prayers, and living as God’s children. The students attend selected school masses.
